# Connections

Connections identify the source and destination systems for a migration. Each migration uses one source connection and one destination connection, but a saved connection can be reused across several jobs.

Choose a connection according to how the storage is exposed and which service owns its behavior. A provider-specific connection should be preferred when one exists because it presents the fields, authentication method, and restrictions for that service.

## Cloud Content Platforms

Use a [cloud content platform](/connections/cloud-content-platforms.md) connection for Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or SharePoint. These services use OAuth and have provider-specific behavior for rate limits, file formats, duplicate names, locks, or uploaded Office files.

## Object Storage

Use an [object storage](/connections/object-storage.md) connection for Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage, or an S3-compatible provider. These connections normally use bucket or container credentials and generally provide the best performance for large migrations.

## File Servers and Protocols

Use [file servers and protocols](/connections/file-servers-and-protocols.md) for Azure Files or for a publicly reachable FTP/FTPS, SFTP, or WebDAV server. Use the Files.com Agent when the storage is on a private network or cannot accept a connection from Mover over the internet.

## Connection Changes and Deletion

Provide a label that distinguishes each connection when you create it. Mover then asks for the credentials, server or storage location, and connection-specific settings it needs.

You can edit a connection's label and type-specific settings later, but you cannot change its type. Create a new connection when you need to replace one provider or protocol with another.

To delete a connection, edit its settings and choose the delete option. A connection cannot be deleted while a migration still uses it.
